Song for Africa Scholarship Fund

A Project by Song for Africa

The project that we are currently looking for funding for is the Song for Africa Scholarship Fund. The students that we support are some of the most dedicated students that we have ever come into contact with. They have a goal for the future, and their education is a huge part of that. They want to grow up and help their community, one of the poorest in the world, become a better place. By reaching our $10,000 dollar fundraising goal we can help 5 students improve their lives.

The money that is raised here goes directly to the students, we are a team of volunteers and as such do not have huge administrative costs. We also believe that there is more to supporting these students than just paying for their fees. We support them through all aspects of their education and their lives as they go through their journey. We have included an overall description of the Scholarship Fund below, but if you have any questions at all please don't hesitate to contact Jaime Cundy, our project organizer. She is more than willing to answer any and all questions you have!

The Song for Africa Scholarship Fund sponsors young people living in Kibera, Kenya. They are not only given the opportunity to complete their education but are also linked to other services – legal services, information on savings and loans, medical assistance, and psychosocial support. SFA ensures that the recipients and their families are as stable as possible on all fronts.

The fund also provides career development workshops for the recipients, as well as for other children from the community. These workshops are designed to motivate Kibera’s youth to aim high in furthering their education and future careers. They introduce students to successful individuals from Kibera and similar communities. These individuals act as role models and as they share their stories, they serve as real life examples of how anything is possible with a dream and a hard work ethic.

The scholarship was created with the belief that it can help to break the cycle of disempowerment by granting youth access to the most powerful cycle breaker there is – EDUCATION.
